Tidewater Dance Theater, Inc.History The Tidewater Dance Theater, Inc. (TDT) was established in April 1973 by Elizabeth Evans, owner of the Northampton Dance Studios of Hampton and The Dance Center of Newport News, VA. Seeing a need in the community for a dance company to offer local dancers more performing opportunities, she established TDT as a civic, non-profit organization open to area dancers who had achieved the required level of proficiency. Fifteen local dancers were selected as charter members and an honorary Board of Directors was established. The company has produced many full-length contemporary ballet, modern, classical ballet and theatrical works over the years and performed for many community events locally and throughout the surrounding areas. The company has also performed in other states on the East Coast and traveled and performed abroad showcasing a variety of creative and performing talent. Mission Statement The Tidewater Dance Theater, Inc. is dedicated to the enhancement of our community through providing dance creation, education, and performance experience to local dancers. Each season our purpose remains constant: creating, teaching, showing and sharing dance and theatrical works. The company supports the collaboration of creative projects between dancers, choreographers, composers, visual artists and other artists in the Tidewater area. Photos © TDT, Inc.
