Tidewater Dance Theater, Inc.History The Tidewater Dance Theater, Inc. (TDT) was chartered in the state of Virginia in April 1973 by Elizabeth Evans. Seeing a need in the community for a dance company to offer local dancers more performing opportunities and to increase awareness of the benefits of dance, she established TDT as a civic, non-profit organization open to area dancers who had achieved the required level of proficiency. Fifteen local dancers were selected as charter members and an honorary Board of Directors was established. The company has produced many full-length contemporary ballet and theatrical works over the years and performed for many community events and charity events locally and throughout the surrounding areas. The company has also performed in other states on the East Coast and traveled and performed abroad showcasing a variety of creative and performing talent. Mission Statement To foster the development in the community of an appreciation for the art of dance by promoting, producing, and causing to be produced, musical productions and entertainments suitable for family viewing, and by taking part in activities having that end in view.
