Bio

Mrs. Evans received her early training in the Dance Arts at the Hutchinson Schoool in Richmond, Va. After a brief teaching period for the Professional Arts Academy there, she moved to Florida where she owned and directed studios for over 5 years. Moving to California, she did intensive study with Lew and Harold Christensen of the San Francisco Ballet.

Mrs. Evans established the first U.S. Army sponsored dance school in Okinawa in 1949. In the 1950's she accompanied her husband, a military officer, to both France and Germany and was able to continue her study of ballet in Roanne and Rochfort, France and Meinheim, Germany. Upon her return to the states in 1954, she established Northampton Dance Studios on the Peninsula.

Mrs. Evans has been a member of the Professional Dance Teachers of America and the National Association of Dance and Affiliated Artists and numerous other professional organizations over the years. She founded the Tidewater Dance Theater, Inc., a state chartered regional non-profit dance company in 1973. She has produced numerous shows and pageants to include the Hampton Roads Junior Miss Scholarship Program for over 35 years.

Mrs. Evans was a charter member of the Hampton Charter Chapter of the American Business Women's Organization and has served as President of three chapters on the Peninsula. She was named Woman of the Year in 1976 by the Hampton Charter Chapter.

Mrs. Evans is a member of the Eastern Star, the DAR and numerous genealogy affiliated groups since her hobby is genealogy. She is the author of The Genealogy of the John Ash Family of Wiltshire, England 1634 - 2007.
