| The Northampton Dance Studios, under the direction of Elizabeth Evans and her daughter, Debbi, were founded by Mrs. Evans in 1955 in Hampton, Virginia. A second location, The Dance Center, was opened in 1975 in the heart of Newport News near Christopher Newport University. In 2002 the Hampton location was closed due to new ownership of the shopping center and all classes were moved to the Newport News location. A complete year-round curriculum is offered and directed by professional dancers who also personally conduct and/or supervise all classes. Because of Mrs. Evans' background, dedication and professional approach to teaching, the school continues to be a tremendous asset to the community and beyond. Students have achieved successful professional careers in dance and related fields over the years. | Classes are offered in Ballet, Pointe, Jazz, Broadway Jazz, Contemporary, Lyrical, Modern, Hip-Pop, Fusion, Tap, Adult Ballet and Stretch and sessions in Adult Fitness at various times. The school has also offered complete Baton instruction for over 45 years. Student performances are held annually. Private lessons by appointment. The studios are home to the Tidewater Dance Theater, Inc. a contemporary ballet/modern dance company and non-profit organization dedicated to providing dance creation, education, and performance experience to local dancers. Many original works have been presented ranging from large theatrical works to smaller more intimate creations as well as a number of performance projects in collaboration with other local artists. |
